Who are you comparing yourself to? Who is your main competition? Who are you playing the game against? The answer may surprise you.

Conventional wisdom suggests we need to keep up with the Johnsons, Millers, Jones, Williams, and Andersons.

We may think we should compare ourselves to our neighbors, our friends, people in our professions, or the people we follow on social media.

We may think that these people are who we are competing against and who we are playing the game of life against.

The reality is, we are not competing against anyone else, we are competing against ourselves. We are our own competition.

We are competing against ourselves to be better than we were yesterday. We are trying to play the game today better than we did yesterday and play it better tomorrow than we did today.

We don’t need to compare ourselves to anyone but ourselves.

At the end of your day, week, or month, ask yourself these questions:

What did I do well?

What can I learn from that?

What needs work?

How can I improve?
