“Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”-George Bernard Shaw
Welcome (back) to the Lawyer’s Well-Being Brief! Each week, I share insights and practical strategies to help us cultivate well-being and flourish — both personally and professionally. Live well! Lawyer well!
Well-being Week in Law is May 4–8, 2026. The aim of Well-Being Week in Law (WWIL) is to raise awareness about mental health and encourage action and innovation across the profession all year-round to improve well-being.
Led by Dr. Anne Brafford, WWIL was launched in May 2020 with the support of multiple organizations and an enthusiastic team. Since 2023, Tara Antonipillai has partnered with Anne to co-lead WWIL. It occurs the first week of May to align with Mental Health Awareness Month.
The event originally was named “Lawyer Well-Being Week.” In 2021, it was renamed “Well-Being Week in Law” to be more explicitly inclusive of all of the important contributors to the legal profession who are not lawyers.
This year’s WWIL theme is Tending Joy. The Daily Schedule — the hub of WWIL — recommends activities for each day of the week. Each day focuses on a distinct dimension of holistic well-being for legal professionals:
Monday: Stay Strong (Physical Well-Being)
Tuesday: Align (Spiritual Well-Being)
Wednesday: Engage & Grow (Career & Intellectual Well-Being)
Thursday: Connect (Social Well-Being)
Friday: Feel Well (Emotional Well-Being)
For the full definition of each well-being dimension, jump to About WWIL.
You’ll find activity ideas and resources to support all levels of participation.
